As part of a team of cross-discipline heritage interpretation experts, Miller Designworks was hired to provide expertise and consultation on the Brandywine Battlefield Heritage Interpretation and Connectivity Plan. Under the coordination and leadership of the Brandywine Conservancy in Chadds Ford, PA, this county-led multi-municipality and multi-partner group were tasked with taking the next steps for an earlier county plan– called Landscapes3– to create a network of related heritage gateways, centers and interpretive sites. The focus of this plan was the rich history and heritage of the sprawling Brandywine Battlefield in southern Chester County.
MDW had already created a pilot heritage center at Marshallton Village, and so we brought our expertise and practical experience in environmental design and graphics to the table to help evaluate potential sites, present concepts and potential narrative ideas to the various interpretive themes discussed. Then, rough ballpark budget estimates were developed for different levels of exhibit design and build-out.
These findings, maps, and sketch plans were detailed in the comprehensive Plan published by the Brandywine Conservancy. Full plan available here.
